Global Jihad...news from the Eastern Front

Our media seems to love covering terrorist activities.
And as we have been so astute as to observe, Islam is attacking us Westerners in their pursuit of the world Caliphate.

What we don't see here is the other front: Asia.

In particular, the Chinese.

It's easy to overlook such goings on as we are not exactly best friends with China. First of all, China is a communist state. Those of us that were around during the Cold War era have a real distaste for commies. And with the Olympics being held in China, alot of news is centered around making the Chinese gov't look like the evil bad commies. Fair enough.

However, The Islamic Jihad has not left out the Chinese. The ethnic Uyghur population of China is close to Afghanistan and the growing unrest has caused many Uyghurs to turn to activism in the form of jihadist attacks. the diaspora communities of Uyghurs in other middle eastern countries has taken up the cause as well. In Pakistan Chinese contract workers have been targeted with assassination by the Uyghurs in an attempt to influence Chinese policy towards their Uyghur population.

Just to remind you all, of the persistence and pervasiveness of the Islamic Jihad. In case you don't think about it or don't believe it constitutes much of a threat, open thine eyes blind ones and see.

Well, Obama really made a serious Faux pas with this quote:

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Rich Lowry of National Review Online has this to say about that quote.

At bottom, this is a profoundly insulting point of view. Consider Obama’s formulation. He makes it sound like no one would be a hunter or a Christian absent economic distress, that economic circumstances drive people into such atavistic habits. Has he considered that some people simply enjoy hunting? And view the right to bear arms as a guarantor of American liberty? As they used to say, “God made men, but Sam Colt made them equal.”

The assumption is that only liberal attitudes are normal and well-adjusted: If only these small-town people could earn more income, get an advanced degree, and move to a major metropolitan area, then they could shed their chrysalis of social conservatism.

Thank God for America...revisited.

Well, much to my (pleasant) surprise, I received a lot of comments on this post.
I'd like to refer anyone that bothers to visit my corner of the blogosphere to ITM (Iraq The Model).

I've gotten some interesting and thought provoking feedback from some of their patrons.

I would like to take the time to share with everyone a particular comment by one of their readers. I know alot of folks that cruise through the site don't take the time to read the comments...and that's ok. But I think that what this gentlemen has said is worth repeating and worth giving it's own entry here.

I hope that Mr. Harrell does not mind my reposting this comment on the "front page" so to speak. If you do please let me know.

So without further ado, I give you the comment that Mr. Kenneth C. Harrell left on my site.

I know that the vast majority of US military men and women serving in Iraq will be grateful to know of your son's comments. Having served in the US Air Force during the War Games of South East Asia (known formally as the Viet Nam War) where the US "leadership" (johnson and mcnamara) refused to allow the US military to fight that as a war and to win, it is gratifying to know that President Bush, once he sent those brave souls into combat, allows them to take the actions necessary to win.

I hope it will continue to be the aim of the US military personnel to do their jobs to the best of their ability, and if it proves to be superior to that of others, that they refrain from any comparison of abilities and where they are able, to pass on what skills and abilities that they see lacking in others. NOT so they can claim any recognition, but so that such additional information passed on to their comrades in arms may benefit them both and the objective of their mission.

We see far too much in the MSM (mainstream media) that is a total distortion of the reality of the situation in Iraq that it becomes amazing that those men and women who's lives are constantly in danger can face yet another day. The, US political party, democrats are constantly whining about "bring the troops home". Their whine has a two fold purpose. To cause the efforts, in Iraq, of President Bush to fail, and to create enough deaths of US personnel that the US public will demand an end to the war. They have no concern that their real purposes will be brought to the attention of the US public, as the MSM is in bed with the democrats and other leftist groups.

The islamofascists want an unstable Iraq so they, with the aide of Iran, build a home base for more terrorist attacks across the world. If the MSM would provide to the US public and hopefully it would be spread world wide, the aim of the group, the muslim brotherhood, the coddling and constant bowing to islamic cult gripes would cease immediately.
The aim of the islamic cult via the muslim brotherhood is basically world conquest. To force the islamic cult onto every human on the planet. Of course, they do allow an "out", you can die. The islamic cult claims that any land previously under the control of the islamic cult remains their domain.

Last week a saudi cleric gave the most revealing comment about why the muslim cult is dead set against democracy and freedom of speech. Freedom of speech, and thus thought, could cause people to question the basis of the islamic cult and thus seek other religions. It's ironic that this fool didn't realize the core fact that he put forth, there is so much hollowness to the islamic cult that when one begins to question the truthfulness of what is contained in the koran, they will see that there is much that has no basis im fact. The one that the islamic cult fears being questioned the most is murdering in the name of Allah. Christians have learned and believe that GOD does not wish man to kill and claim that as a right into HEAVEN. Killing by man is a last resort to Christians, to muslims it is almost an obligation.

The civilized world MUST wake up to this very real and ongoing threat to our civilization posed by the muslimc cult. A strong military which can eliminate the bases of the islamofascists is absolutely essential. Presidents Reagan and both Bushs recognized the requirement. Following the debacle of the attempt to rescue the US hostages in Iran in 1980 under the peanut brain's occupancy of the White House, the US military began to restructure and rebuild under Reagan. What most liberals and all anti_Americans ignore is the fact that the vast majority of military personnel do NOT want to fight. What they want is to present the image of a military that is so strong, efficient and effective that any reasonable man/government will choose to cease its hostile ways instead of continuing to provoke the US. This is what your son has seen. The effects of the training, the equipment and the will to fight for what is right. As long as these are kept at the top, the US will be able, with the courageous aide of nations such as Australia, to continue on in this endeavor. it cannot and should not be done alone. It is the duty of all freedom loving, and not mouthing, but in actions, people to stand up and reject the efforts of tyrants such as hussein, gadafhi, chavez, castro, il, ahmadinejad and these lunatic "mullahs" of the islamic cult, to control the world in the name of communism or the islamic cult, etc.

When the nation's media stands WITH the nation's military in such efforts and not against and in support of such terrorists and terrorist groups, we will have taken a significant step in the right direction. But when the media works at odds to the efforts of the military, for purely partisan political reasons, they place not only the lives of the military personnel, but their own lives and the survival of their nation at risk. Most are simply too stupid to comprehend this fact.

Athens School 'Attack' Proven To Be False, Girl To Be Charged

She inflicted the scratches on herself. Thank God for surveillance cameras huh? otherwise a bunch of kids coulda wound up in whole heap of trouble cause of one bigoted little girl.

Making a wish come true


At 5, he could have gone anywhere in the world and pretty much done anything he wanted to do. Gavin Cox has leukemia and the Make-a-Wish Foundation had told him he pretty much had carte blanc in that regard.
What Gavin wanted to do was to become a soldier. On March 18th the US Army made his wish come true.

al-Jazeera in 2006, Ahmad al-Qataani, leader of the Companions Lighthouse for the Science of Islamic Law in Libya, explains the decline:


Islam used to represent … Africa’s main religion and there were 30 African

languages that used to be written in Arabic script. The number of Muslims in Africa has

diminished to 316 million, half of whom are Arabs in North Africa. So in the section of

Africa that we are talking about, the non-Arab section, the number of Muslims does not

exceed 150 million people. When we realize that the entire population of Africa is one

billion people, we see that the number of Muslims has diminished greatly from what it

was in the beginning of the last century.


On the other hand, the number of Catholics has increased from one million in 1902 to

329 million 882 thousand (329,882,000). Let us round off that number to 330 million in

the year 2000.


As to how that happened, well there are now 1.5 million churches whose congregations

account for 46 million people. In every hour, 667 Muslims convert to Christianity.

Everyday, 16,000 Muslims convert to Christianity. Every year, 6 million Muslims

convert to Christianity. These numbers are very large indeed.

I came across a very touching story from the father of an Australian Soldier who is deployed to Iraq. H/T:Pam Gellar at Atlas Shrugs.

There is probably no other nation on this earth that is closer to us than Australia and for good reason. We have very similar histories and a common ancestry.

Gentlemen,

I am an Australian and my son is an Australian - as far as we are concerned there is not place on God's earth better than Australia , and there are no people better than Australians.
That was until the past week or so.
My son is in the Australian Army and he is currently on deployment in Iraq . I can not go into his duties in great depth, but shall we say that he and his fellow army buddies are on a glorified guard duty looking after the Australian Embassy. They don't go out looking for "action", though it is a different story in Afghanistan , there the Aussie troops chase the baddies over the hills and into the valleys..
My son and I just ended a long 'phone conversation and here are some of his comments, believe me this is what he said. We have all seen the bullshit emails written by some clown in his lounge room pretending to be at the coal face, but this is what was said.:

"Before I came over here I thought we (the Australian Army) were pretty shit hot..... was I ever wrong!....The Yanks (I hope you don't mind me using that word) are so professional from the top to the bottom that it is almost embarrassing to be in their company, and to call yourself a soldier....don't get me wrong, we are good at what we do but the Yanks are so much better.....they are complete at what they do, how they do it and their attitude is awesome....they don't complain they just get on with the job and they do it right.....I carry a Minimi (SAW) so I am not real worried about a confrontation but I tell you I feel safer just knowing that the US Army is close by....If we got into trouble I know that our boys would come running and we could deal with it but they would probably be passed by a load of Hummers. No questions asked, no glory sought, the Americans would just fight with us and for us because that is their nature, to protect those in need of protection.....We use the American Mess so you could say that we are fed by the Americans.....they have every right to be pissed at that but they don't bitch about that they just make us feel as welcome as possible....what gets to me is that the Yanks don't walk around with a "we are better than you attitude" and they could because they are, they treat us as equals and as brothers in arms. If nothing else, coming here has taught me that the Americans are a truly great Nation and a truly great bunch of people.....Let's face it they don't HAVE to be here, they could stay in America and beat the shit out of anyone who threatened them, BUT THEY ARE HERE because they believe they should be here, and the Iraqis would be screwed if they weren't here.....When I come home, you and I we are going to the US, we will buy some bikes and we are going riding...."

The reason why I am sharing this with you is because I realize that you (as a nation) must get pretty pissed with all the criticism you receive by the so-called "know it alls" who are sitting at home - safe. The reality is that they are safe, just as I am, because of America . If the world went arse up tomorrow there is f**k all we ( Australia ) could do about it, but I know that the Americans would be there putting themselves on the line for others. That to me is the sign of greatness.
The most precious thing in my life is my son, I look at him and I thank God that I am fortunate enough to be able to spend time in his company. We laugh, we discuss, we argue, we dummy spit, we have the same blood. I am not happy that he is where he is but that is his duty. He joined the Army to protect and to defend, not to play games. I mightn't like it but I accept it. My reasons for not liking it are selfish and self centered. I felt assured that he would be safe because he is in a well trained army with an excellent record, BUT NOW, I feel a whole lot better knowing that he is with your sons, daughters, brothers and sisters.
Whilst he was growing up. I was always there to look after him, I would not let harm befall him and I would always put myself before him to protect him. I can't do that now. When it comes to looking after him now he and his mates will do the job, but also THANK GOD FOR AMERICA.
Gentlemen, I have rambled on for too long. but as I finish I say to you, as a foreigner and outsider, a nation is only a collection of its people and its attitude is the attitude of its people, collectively and as individuals. I am really glad you are here on this Earth and I respect you as a nation and as people.
Stand up and feel proud because you deserve it, there is no one else who will do what America does without question. The next time someone howls you down, take some comfort in the fact that America is defending their right to act like an idiot.

Bush Administration to Issue Waivers to Build U.S.-Mexico Border Fence

Yeah...and all the conspiracy theorists out there are up in arms about it.
In this intstance I am glad they're doing something before the Dems take charge of things.

I have to make a comment or two on this article though. I think the most idiotic people opposed to this are the environmentalists. Using all sorts of claims of adverse affect on the the environment and the animals that will be endangered by the fence....


CHRIST! I am sick of this. If even ONE of these f**king treehuggers would take a walk along the border in our Coronado National Forest or any other desert habitat along the border they will find the detritus left behind by the illegals that are literally streaming across the border by the thousands.

You want to preserve a natural habitat?

Keep these people from illegally crossing our bordres and leaving their heaps of trash that litter our lands for miles. But the big, bad Bush and company are endagering the lives of fruit bats?

I call bullshit on this one.

Get a grip and before you start screaming and waving your "I hate Bush" signs, take a trip to the border and see for yourself. And if you can't take the time off to go visit the southern border, why don't you listen to someone who lives here and sees the effect they have on our country firsthand.

There are so many more...If you'd like, I can start photographing the trash I find left behind on the ranges of our local military installation....

And they're worried about fruit bats and fairy shrimp or some other obscure animal species...

Al Doura, Baghdad — As I step out of the humvee into the street, I have two facts in mind: I’ve been here before; and this time, I don’t have a weapon.
Recalling the tension of my first patrol in this neighborhood as a platoon leader, my five senses are sharp. The dusty road below greets my boots, some of the smells are eerily familiar, and the sound of idling humvees is my only comfort. My head swivels to scan the street. My hands are naked without an M-4, so I find the nearest soldier.
Soon — as a young child approaches — the wary familiarity gives way to fascination. I may be in the same geographic location, but I’m not in the same neighborhood. This is not Al Doura, at least not as I knew it. Where did all these people and shops come from? Where is all the trash, and the open sewage? Where is the fear — the deep-seated fear?

National Guard to be pulled from border patrol

Well, this is the first I've heard of this....I'm sure it will not be the last.
It seems the Feds are pulling the Nat'l Guard off of Border duty 6 months early and there is no one to replace them in their current role until December leaving a 6 month breach in Border security...the area most affected is expected to be the southern border of New Mexico.

6. Not allowed to play “Pulp Fiction” with a suction-cup dart pistol and any officer.
7. Not allowed to add “In accordance with the prophesy” to the end of answers I give to a question an officer asks me.
8. Not allowed to add pictures of officers I don’t like to War Criminal posters.
9. Not allowed to title any product “Get Over it”.
10. Not allowed to purchase anyone’s soul on government time.
11. Not allowed to join the Communist Party.
12. Not allowed to join any militia.
13. Not allowed to form any militia.
14. Not allowed out of my office when the president visited Sarajevo.
15. Not allowed to train adopted stray dogs to “Sic Brass!”
16. Must get a haircut even if it tampers with my “Samson like powers”.

24. Must not tell any officer that I am smarter than they are, especially if it’s true.
25. Never confuse a Dutch soldier for a French one.

Y'know, I'm a bit worried about the next presidential election.

As most of us conservatives ought to be.


I get some emails from some organisations that are of a liberal bent and when i initially opted to get these emails, I was all about clicking a button to help raise money for endangered species and whatnot. General do-good, feel-good type stuff.


I've been noticing lately that the emails I've been getting from these organizations has been more radically liberal.


This disturbs me. I don't mind people voicing their opinions, don't get me wrong, but the tactics are pretty underhanded. You figure most people want to do good. But realizing that what someone in an organization is asking you to do is not necessarily a good thing when you associate them with do-good type stuff,...that's the issue I'm having. I know alot of people don't follow politics like they ought to, but that's their choice. the Libs are targeting those folks and I'm having a hard time reconciling that.


for example. I get an email from Care2. Now these folks are becoming much more blatant about their liberal bent when they are petitioning to get behind the democrats in '08. Because...

And I quote:

I Saw this Dispatch over at Michael Yon and I just had to post about it. The article is a grand tribute to the work of the 4/6 CAV over in Iraq.
And to my little brother Nathan who is over there providing Avionics support to those guys...This is an article you should read. I'm not sure if you really know what those pilots do, I know I had no idea the gritty dangerous combat situations these guys (and gals) do.

For those of you who read my blog...and I know there aren't a whole lot of you, Michael Yon is an independent journalist that specializes in reporting on the War on Terror. He has done a hell of a job getting in the dirt with the troops...both US and foreign to give as accurate of a prtrayal of this war from the soldier's perspective. His Blog is a must read if you even have half a care for the folks directly involved in this war.

This article really brings to light the vast differences in secular western thought over that of the middle eastern (islamic) thought. It also brings into the spotlight the obvious...at least to those who think about Rules of Engagement with these terrorists. In this enemy we see a distinctive lack of designated military personal. Everyone is a soldier in Alllah's Army. The traditional notion that Holy Men are not to be targets of military aggression is called into question now as well. With the Islamic clerics actively pushing their followers to die in the cause of Islam...are they not just as guilty as the the actual perpetrators?

A Boring Tattoo....


This little "cartoon" was sent to me in a chain email. I appreciate the motive behind the chain but I am offended on a personal level by such things. I hate it when someone tries to guilt me into spamming someone, no matter how good a message it has in it.

That being said. I am going to post this and the commentary, minus the chain(send this to "x" number of people thing.

With the number of shooting incidents by deranged individuals, the issue of gun control is of course going to rear it's ugly head.

S.2619 and H.R.5434

Ok folks...these 2 bills apparently are good thing. Seems our congreesmen and senators are going to vote on whether we citizens can carry loaded weapons in our national parks.

Now, I would never have known about this if I hadn't gotten an email from the NPCA. That's the National Parks Conservation Asociation. Yep, There's a closet treehugger in here somewhere...hahaha. No, seriously though. I love the outdoors and I'm all for conservation of our natural habitats...to an extent.

I've been meaning to blog about this for a while, but real life has a tendency to put a dent in my blogging.

Anywho. The NPCA is actively opposing this legislature. I think those of us that value our rights need to pay attention.

Time permitting I will try to keep up on this legislature. Write your senators and congressmen and let them know we citizens support this legislation.

The opposition is claiming that allowing people to cary loaded weapons in National Parks will increase the level of poaching and crime. Yeah...like the folks commiting crimes give a shit about any bill passed in congress or the senate.

For those of you that are aware...and those that may not be. The city of Berkeley has told our US Marines that they're unwelcome intruders. This is absolutely ridiculous.
The City council has apparently decided to oust the USMC recruiting station from their leftard city. They've encouraged groups like Code Pink to actively inhibit people from entering the establishment.

Sec. 2388. Activities affecting armed forces during war
(a) Whoever, when the United States is at war, willfully makes or conveys false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States or to promote the success of its enemies; or Whoever, when the United States is at war, willfully causes or attempts to cause insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or willfully obstructs the recruiting or enlistment service of the United States, to the injury of the service or the United States, or attempts to do so - Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

(b) If two or more persons conspire to violate subsection (a) of this section and one or more such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each of the parties to such conspiracy shall be punished as provided in said subsection (a).
(c) Whoever harbors or conceals any person who he knows, or has reasonable grounds to believe or suspect, has committed, or is about to commit, an offense under this section, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
(d) This section shall apply within the admiralty and maritime jurisdiction of the United States, and on the high seas, as well as within the United States.

So there we have it folks. The City of Berkeley has shown it's true colors...
They've attempted to backpedal after coming under heavy fire form some of our Senators and Representitives. Saying that:
"we don't support the war, but we support the troops..."

Sorry this doesn't fly. Seems when the threat of federal funding being pulled pops up, they were suddenly quite apologetic.

Several of our senators are spearheading a bill to strip earmarks headed for Berkeley in the Omnibus bill and redirect those funds to the Marine Corps. Personally I'm all for this.

Senator Inhofe: "Unfortunately, those on the Berkeley city council do not seem to understand the sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Marine Corps. By interfering with military recruiting, the city of Berkeley is hampering our ability to protect this nation. That city closed its doors on the same individuals taking bullets on the front lines while fighting for the safety and freedom of families in Berkeley and throughout America."

Senator Vitter: "The actions of the City Council of Berkeley are in stark contrast to beliefs of the vast majority of Americans who recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of our U.S. Marines. This is simply unacceptable and those funds could be better utilized by the Marine Corps."

Ok, I was over at Dollard and saw a video of Ms. Naomi Wolf. She is obviously a passionate Libertarian. Ok, no big deal there. I am a closet libertarian myself. But let's get some things straight here. Libertarianism is in my mind the Conservative version of Utopia. It's a pipe dream folks. We live in a big world and the reality of our existence dictates how we deal with it, be we liberal or conservative.

What bothers me is that this woman has credentials and apparently a following. Of course it's not hard to get a following when you bash the CinC. There's always plenty of folks to jump on THAT bandwagon.

My issue is with the accusation that the Bush administration is Fascist.

All jokes aside. If you take what this woman says at face value...sure you can see her point. However I take exception to several of the "steps" towards a fascist state that she is pointing out as an indicator. I can't deny a couple of them, but then, whatever. The chance of Bush staging a coup are pretty much nil.

So without further ado....

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy

...It is not that global Islamist terrorism is not a severe danger; of course it is. I am arguing rather that the language used to convey the nature of the threat is different in a country such as Spain - which has also suffered violent terrorist attacks - than it is in America. Spanish citizens know that they face a grave security threat; what we as American citizens believe is that we are potentially threatened with the end of civilisation as we know it. Of course, this makes us more willing to accept restrictions on our freedoms....

If anything, it seems to me that the Islamist threat has been downplayed with the language used by the bush administration. Not to mention our continued association with fundamentalist Islamic nations (read: Saudi Arabia)

2. Create a gulag

...With its jails in Iraq and Afghanistan, and, of course, Guantánamo in Cuba, where detainees are abused, and kept indefinitely without trial and without access to the due process of the law, America certainly has its gulag now. Bush and his allies in Congress recently announced they would issue no information about the secret CIA "black site" prisons throughout the world, which are used to incarcerate people who have been seized off the street...

Gulag? Is this woman nuts? If not for the intelligence gleaned during interrogations of these animals, where would we be now? Oh, and by the way, how many law-abiding citizens of the United States have been incarcerate here? Not to mention...that we are in a new age of global war. The enemy does not observe Geneva Convention rules. It does what id sees as necessary to achieve those ends. To believe that civilians...and American citizens at that will be secretly held here is in the realm of conspiracy theories. We've got bigger fish to fry and we don't have the manpower to pursue the war effort and worry about regular citizens that "might" be in cahoots with the enemy because they criticize the policies of the administration currently in office.

3. Develop a thug caste

OK...I just had to include the entire entry on this one...

...When leaders who seek what I call a "fascist shift" want to close down an open society, they send paramilitary groups of scary young men out to terrorise citizens. The Blackshirts roamed the Italian countryside beating up communists; the Brownshirts staged violent rallies throughout Germany. This paramilitary force is especially important in a democracy: you need citizens to fear thug violence and so you need thugs who are free from prosecution.
The years following 9/11 have proved a bonanza for America's security contractors, with the Bush administration outsourcing areas of work that traditionally fell to the US military. In the process, contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars have been issued for security work by mercenaries at home and abroad. In Iraq, some of these contract operatives have been accused of involvement in torturing prisoners, harassing journalists and firing on Iraqi civilians. Under Order 17, issued to regulate contractors in Iraq by the one-time US administrator in Baghdad, Paul Bremer, these contractors are immune from prosecution
Yes, but that is in Iraq, you could argue; however, after Hurricane Katrina, the Department of Homeland Security hired and deployed hundreds of armed private security guards in New Orleans. The investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill interviewed one unnamed guard who reported having fired on unarmed civilians in the city. It was a natural disaster that underlay that episode - but the administration's endless war on terror means ongoing scope for what are in effect privately contracted armies to take on crisis and emergency management at home in US cities.
Thugs in America? Groups of angry young Republican men, dressed in identical shirts and trousers, menaced poll workers counting the votes in Florida in 2000. If you are reading history, you can imagine that there can be a need for "public order" on the next election day. Say there are protests, or a threat, on the day of an election; history would not rule out the presence of a private security firm at a polling station "to restore public order"...

Ok, now this really takes the cake. I don't suppose the proliferation of idiots like the Westboro Baptist church, code pink and any other group of nutjobs is even in the same category? Or how about all the stories of republicans, in multiple states being derided at the poll booth by the workers there. Or being deliberately given a democratic ticket to vote with despite being told multiple times that they're republican…I wonder how many of those folks accidentally voted in the democratic primary instead of the republican one…wtf over?

Let's not mince words here. Why don't you just come on out and say it. Blackwater Security is the big bad Thug organisation you're so afraid of. If you have half a brain and actually pay attention to detail, you would know that the security of our diplomats and other VIPs in hostile areas can't be covered by our already stretched thin military. These "professionals" are necessary. And I will not stoop so low as to call them a necessary evil...I would be more inclined to call them a necessary good. All this talk of security contractors stinks of the bullshit that went on in Iraq about checks and balances. We don't have that problem here dear. They are US citizens. If they step out of line here...they go to jail.

4. Set up an internal surveillance system

...In 2005 and 2006, when James Risen and Eric Lichtblau wrote in the New York Times about a secret state programme to wiretap citizens' phones, read their emails and follow international financial transactions, it became clear to ordinary Americans that they, too, could be under state scrutiny.
In closed societies, this surveillance is cast as being about "national security"; the true function is to keep citizens docile and inhibit their activism and dissent...

So, of course it always comes down to this…illegal wiretapping and surveillance of American citizens. Yeah, on principle I disagree with this, but the intelligence gathered has done an awful lot to keep us from experiencing a repeat of 9/11.
Quite frankly, as long as they're focused on the obvious threat, I don't much care. Especially since Congress still has the power to stop it at any time.

5. Harass citizens' groups

...Other harassment is more serious: the American Civil Liberties Union reports that thousands of ordinary American anti-war, environmental and other groups have been infiltrated by agents: a secret Pentagon database includes more than four dozen peaceful anti-war meetings, rallies or marches by American citizens in its category of 1,500 "suspicious incidents". The equally secret Counterintelligence Field Activity (Cifa) agency of the Department of Defense has been gathering information about domestic organisations engaged in peaceful political activities: Cifa is supposed to track "potential terrorist threats" as it watches ordinary US citizen activists. A little-noticed new law has redefined activism such as animal rights protests as "terrorism". So the definition of "terrorist" slowly expands to include the opposition...

So, the ACLU reports…yeah. Ok. These guys are about as un-American as it gets. In case you all haven't noticed…we're at war. Keeping tabs on "peaceful" organizations and protests is nothing new. Perhaps if there had been more tabs being kept on David Korresh (sp?) we wouldn't have had such a crazy thing happen as Waco. Or what about Timothy McVey? Concerned citizens starting up militia groups that have anti-government leanings. Why? Maybe because they don't feel the government is protecting their freedoms properly. Just a hunch.
And in all honesty, I think that The socialist Dems are way worse for our national security than any Bush administration ever could be.

And what's wrong with monitoring activists. Zealots of any color are dangerous.

6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release

...In 2004, America's Transportation Security Administration confirmed that it had a list of passengers who were targeted for security searches or worse if they tried to fly. People who have found themselves on the list? Two middle-aged women peace activists in San Francisco; liberal Senator Edward Kennedy; a member of Venezuela's government - after Venezuela's president had criticised Bush; and thousands of ordinary US citizens...

I think what is most important to discern here is that just because you're on a watchlist or detained and questioned about possible subversive activities is no big deal. Are you being handcuffed, jailed and humiliated? Doesn't sound like it to me. So Mr. Mayfield was "mistakenly" identified…are you sure? Where is the evidence? If they seized his computer, what led them to his computer to begin with? Hmmmm….

Well, let's see. How about a little history lesson. Does anyone remember Jane Fonda? Yeah. Peace activist...commie sympathiser. Oh, and a member of the Venezuelan Gov't...the same one that is openly calling for the demise of this great country? Hugo Chavez does not just criticize Bush ma'am, He criticizes America. He is a socialist. He hates capitalists...particularly powerful nations like us.

7. Target key individuals

...Bush supporters in state legislatures in several states put pressure on regents at state universities to penalise or fire academics who have been critical of the administration. As for civil servants, the Bush administration has derailed the career of one military lawyer who spoke up for fair trials for detainees, while an administration official publicly intimidated the law firms that represent detainees pro bono by threatening to call for their major corporate clients to boycott them.
Elsewhere, a CIA contract worker who said in a closed blog that "waterboarding is torture" was stripped of the security clearance she needed in order to do her job....

Yeah and yet we allowed Columbia University to invite the president of Iran into our country and speak to the students. Our enemy was invited to come to our hallowed shores.
So a contractor was fired for stating their personal opinion about waterboarding…hmmm and they worked for the CIA? Well, seems like they were justified in at least reassigning this person. You can't have personnel in direct conflict of interest in a position that requires keeping classified information out of the public eye. Closed blog? What do you mean by that? That it wasn't posted on the internet and people without the need to know were privy to this employees thoughts about a tactic used on certain detainees to glean information? Sounds like they were perfectly within their right. Sometimes you have to know when to keep your mouth shut…I believe we call that OPSEC.

8. Control the press

...Other reporters and writers have been punished in other ways. Joseph C Wilson accused Bush, in a New York Times op-ed, of leading the country to war on the basis of a false charge that Saddam Hussein had acquired yellowcake uranium in Niger. His wife, Valerie Plame, was outed as a CIA spy - a form of retaliation that ended her career.
Prosecution and job loss are nothing, though, compared with how the US is treating journalists seeking to cover the conflict in Iraq in an unbiased way. The Committee to Protect Journalists has documented multiple accounts of the US military in Iraq firing upon or threatening to fire upon unembedded (meaning independent) reporters and camera operators from organisations ranging from al-Jazeera to the BBC. While westerners may question the accounts by al-Jazeera, they should pay attention to the accounts of reporters such as the BBC's Kate Adie. In some cases reporters have been wounded or killed, including ITN's Terry Lloyd in 2003. Both CBS and the Associated Press in Iraq had staff members seized by the US military and taken to violent prisons; the news organisations were unable to see the evidence against their staffers...

Do you really believe the Bush administration is in control of the media? You obviously have a screw loose somewhere. Something that all you freedom of information folks out there have to understand is that not all information should be published. Especially if it can jeopardize OUR combat operations. Lets see, NY Times ring a bell to anyone? When you have photographers and journalist set up in a stakeout position to capture our troops being ambushed by insurgents…or even worse captured video of an IED taking out a military vehicle…and I'm sure killing some of our men and women in uniform. The propaganda war is being won by the enemy because of those selfsame bloodsucking leeches. The real truth from the lies? Try reading PatDollard or Michael Yon sometime. There are some Americans that know the MSM is lies and misdirection. It's all about ratings and what is good for their agendas. The real truthseekers are few and far between. If you see something on the news that disturbs you…do some research.

9. Dissent equals treason

...Cast dissent as "treason" and criticism as "espionage'. Every closing society does this, just as it elaborates laws that increasingly criminalise certain kinds of speech and expand the definition of "spy" and "traitor". When Bill Keller, the publisher of the New York Times, ran the Lichtblau/Risen stories, Bush called the Times' leaking of classified information "disgraceful", while Republicans in Congress called for Keller to be charged with treason, and rightwing commentators and news outlets kept up the "treason" drumbeat. Some commentators, as Conason noted, reminded readers smugly that one penalty for violating the Espionage Act is execution...

Ms. Wolf…with all due respect, judging from what you've just written here, you are not an advocate of freedom, but of anarchy. When a news media giant like the times obviously leaks classified information, at what point to we turn our backs and say, hey it's cool. Go ahead why don't we just supply the media with all of our strategies, tactics and detailed op-orders of all our major engagements.
Point being a line must be drawn when such events occur.

10. Suspend the rule of law

...The John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 gave the president new powers over the national guard. This means that in a national emergency - which the president now has enhanced powers to declare - he can send Michigan's militia to enforce a state of emergency that he has declared in Oregon, over the objections of the state's governor and its citizens.
Even as Americans were focused on Britney Spears's meltdown and the question of who fathered Anna Nicole's baby, the New York Times editorialised about this shift: "A disturbing recent phenomenon in Washington is that laws that strike to the heart of American democracy have been passed in the dead of night ... Beyond actual insurrection, the president may now use military troops as a domestic police force in response to a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, terrorist attack or any 'other condition'."...

I'm not so sure about this. I can see how under unusual circumstances, such as those listed above that the Nat'l Guard could be used to help out in whatever way necessary in such events. Let's see, do you think the regular police forces and emergency personnel of a given region are ever truly adequate in such situations?

I'm not sure about this one…I will give you credit on this. Score one for you. Iam not a lawyer so this is something I cannot argue intelligently about. It seems a knee-jerk reaction , but I could be off-base.

...As Americans turn away quite leisurely, keeping tuned to internet shopping and American Idol, the foundations of democracy are being fatally corroded. Something has changed profoundly that weakens us unprecedentedly: our democratic traditions, independent judiciary and free press do their work today in a context in which we are "at war" in a "long war" - a war without end, on a battlefield described as the globe, in a context that gives the president - without US citizens realising it yet - the power over US citizens of freedom or long solitary incarceration, on his say-so alone.
That means a hollowness has been expanding under the foundation of all these still- free-looking institutions - and this foundation can give way under certain kinds of pressure. To prevent such an outcome, we have to think about the "what ifs".
What if, in a year and a half, there is another attack - say, God forbid, a dirty bomb? The executive can declare a state of emergency. History shows that any leader, of any party, will be tempted to maintain emergency powers after the crisis has passed. With the gutting of traditional checks and balances, we are no less endangered by a President Hillary than by a President Giuliani - because any executive will be tempted to enforce his or her will through edict rather than the arduous, uncertain process of democratic negotiation and compromise.
What if the publisher of a major US newspaper were charged with treason or espionage, as a rightwing effort seemed to threaten Keller with last year? What if he or she got 10 years in jail? What would the newspapers look like the next day? Judging from history, they would not cease publishing; but they would suddenly be very polite...

Although I admire your passion for freedom Ms. Wolf. I must say you are definitely casting stones in the wrong direction. We are a federated republic…not a democracy. At least not in the strict sense. Our true enemy is the socialists in our midst. As a libertarian, you should see this. On principle, I believe in libertarian philosophy. However it is only that. It is to me the utopia of conservative thought. Unrealistic but nice to dream about.
We are just one country (albeit the strongest) in the world. We do more for others than any other country on the planet and we are reviled for doing so…why? Because they are afraid of us and jealous of our prosperity. They take with one hand while casting rude gestures with the other. And yet we still treat them with dignity. I am not a big fan of Mr. Bush. He has shown in the past term to be weak. I am disappointed with him. However I will defend him against such an accusation as Fascist to the bitter end.

The Violent Jihad...

Well, fellow infidels...and more pointedly, those of you who refuse to admit the truth about Islam.
PLEASE do some research, educate yourselves. The dream of world peace is just that...a dream. borne on the backs of those who stand firm against oppression. Without these warriors and proponents of freedom, the notion of world peace would've died out a long time ago.

I will refer you to India. India has been under siege for centuries by the Islamic Jihad. They are unrelenting. They refuse to accept that any other religion can hold sway in any civilization.
They really don't like those darn Hindus in India. no sir.

So if you really value your multi-culti ideals....how can you stand by and watch as a brutal, tyrranical religion attempt to destroy those self-same ideals? The idea of living blindly...thinking that Islam is not the cause of this is mind-boggling to those of us who have done the research and read the Koran. Personally I still have much to learn about these psychos, but there are plenty of studies done by extremely level-headed and competent scholars on this subject. I believe them. From what I ahve read, and what i've learned from other scholars as well as apostates from Islam. We should be worried about them and we should unite to defeat them.

They've gained footholds in Europe and even here in the Americas. But we still cling to this notion of "moderate" muslims and muslim reformation. Good Luck with that. While Al-Qaeda is kidnapping children in Iraq and indoctrinating them to their extremely over-zealous, jihadist beliefs, we wonder why we're in Iraq? They are efectively perpetuating their cause by targeting the children of the next generation. We should be doing the same. Educate these kids. Shoot, educate all those over there that simply don't know any different. We can decisively defeat them in any military operation, but we cannot beat them in the war for hearts and minds if we ignore the reality.

I implore you....educate yourself and see if your misguided belief in diplomacy with these nutjobs is founded in idealism or reality...I can assure you that it is merely a fantasy of our idealistic "feel-good" mentality here in the west. They have no such qualms about their tactics.

Secular vs. Religious Terrorism

Yeah I know...another link to another essay....but.

This is another must read. This essay is written by Jonathan Fine, a research fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism. This guy knows what he's talking about.

The major Islamist terror tactic has, since the early 1980s, been the suicide bomber. In contrast to secular terrorists, Islamist suicide terrorists need not escape; their planning focuses instead on how to deliver the perpetrator to the target area. Suicide bombers are walking smart bombs, able to position themselves among crowds or in restaurants to achieve maximum carnage. During the 2001-02 terror wave in Israel, Hamas and Islamic Jihad bombers, for example, made last minute target selections in order to bolster the number of civilians they could kill. Islamist terrorists also need not use time to augment their demands. While the Marxist groups of the 1970s might have threatened hostages against concrete demands, Islamists seek to kill first and lecture later. Islamists do take hostages but, in such cases, their goal is as likely to be to draw out terror in a 24-hour news cycle than to win concessions.

Excessive deference to Islam.

My favorite headline of the year so far comes from The Daily Mail in Britain: “Government Renames Islamic Terrorism As ‘Anti-Islamic Activity’ To Woo Muslims.”
Her Majesty’s government is not alone in feeling it’s not always helpful to link Islam and the, ah, various unpleasantnesses with suicide bombers and whatnot. Even in his cowboy Crusader heyday, President Bush liked to cool down the crowd with a lot of religion-of-peace stuff. But the British have now decided that kind of mealy-mouthed “respect” is no longer sufficient. So, henceforth, any terrorism perpetrated by persons of an Islamic persuasion will be designated “anti-Islamic activity” Britain’s home secretary, Jacqui Smith, unveiled the new brand name in a speech a few days ago. “There is nothing Islamic about the wish to terrorize, nothing Islamic about plotting murder, pain and grief,” she told her audience. “Indeed, if anything, these actions are anti-Islamic.”

One-Upmanship in Science

After having dug to a depth of 20 meters last year, English scientists found traces of copper wire dating back over 200 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network 200 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the English, in the weeks that followed, Scottish scientists dug to a depth of 30 meters, and shortly after, headlines in the UK newspapers read: 'Scottish archaeologists have found traces of 300 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the English.'

One week later, The Daily Jigger, an Irish newspaper, reported the following: 'After digging as deep as 40 meters, Paddy McMahon, a self taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing'. Paddy has therefore concluded that 400 years ago Ireland had already gone wireless.

The Lesser of Two Evils....

It's amazing how much news flies under the radar...
A commenter from another blog...and I'll be damned if I can remember which one it was now(gonna have to keep better track of these things) brought up an interesting tidbit that I was wholly unaware of...not surprising. I can't sit at the Keyboard and watch the news 24/7...not to mention during the time of this article I was pulling guard duty so much all i had time to do was eat and sleep and check people's ID...

Anywho, the article is from The Washington Post and it was from 2001.
Kinda gives you a bit of insight into the true motives and the machinations of Pakistan's General in Chief. Given the state of affairs in Pakistan right now, perhaps siding with the US was not necessarily the lesser of the two evils...at least for Musharraf and his backward religious beliefs.

Many of you already know how I feel about Islam. It's no secret. And I'm certainly not the only one whose eyes have been opened to the truth about the Koran.

There's a group called the Muslim Brotherhood that is widely believed to be the birthplace of Al-Qaeda.

If you still think that there is no threat of global jihad or islamization of the west, you might want to check out the English translation of "The Project". The document was discovered by Swiss Authorities in November of 2001 just 2 months after the 9/11 destruction of the WTC in New York.

It is a very interesting read and just shows how truly misguided we have been in our approach to the threat of islamization in the West.

Although I am a serious advocate of direct confrontation. Our best weapon against the spread of Sha'ria here is to educate our citizens and hopefully they'll realize the dangers of courting these charlatans who claim to embrace democracy. And if all else fails...
